Editorial Charter · About Virellorounduppi
The thinking behind our trails
Virellorounduppi was founded in Edinburgh by a small collective of mountain walkers, seasonal island wardens, and cartographic illustrators who grew tired of two extremes in outdoor writing: breathless "bucket-list" roundups that omit river-ford hazards and ferry cancellations, and dry technical manuals that forget why we go outside in the first place.
Our goal is to write the kind of reflective field journal we wish we had read before our own first crossings of the Minch, the Laugavegur highland desert, or the bogs of Cape Wrath.
Editorial Principles
Three Commitments in Every Guide
1. Memory Before Spectacle
We begin with the lived texture of a trip—the quiet of a timber hide at dawn or the relief of reaching a mountain bothy in sleet—and work backward to the preparation that makes it possible.
2. Verified Telemetry
Distances, elevation gains, permit windows, and wildlife approach distances are cross-checked against statutory bodies including NatureScot, STF, Metsähallitus, CONAF, and Ferðafélag Íslands.
3. Welfare First
We never publish GPS pins for sensitive raptor nests, seal pupping beaches, or unexcavated archaeological sites, and we separate animal welfare advice from transport logistics on every page.
